Gravity Journal
By Gail Sidonie Sobat
While battling anorexia in rehab, Anise keeps a journal. Anise's mother and father seem oblivious to her struggle and her brother is too consumed with his own problems to be able to help her. Her poems, daily accounts and personal reflections reveal the destructive nature of anorexia as well as the amazing strength of the human spirit to survive.
Discussions Questions:
What specific themes did the author emphasize throughout the novel?
Can you relate to the characters' predicaments?
To what extent do they remind you of yourself or someone you know?
In your opinion, what triggers the disease of anorexia and self-mutilation?
Do you keep a journal or diary?
I really liked Gravity Journal. Reading about Anise's problems really gives you a lot to think about-talk about a reality check. Anorexia must be a really tough disease to live with and reading Gravity Journal helps you to understand what Anise and millions of others are going through. I highly recommend this book. It is a real eye-opener to the troubles that people with anorexia have to deal with every day. Thumbs up Gail!
ReplyDeleteUm, it's been a while since I read Gravity Journal but I remember it was a really good book, not just good but amazing! I REALLY loved it. The theme in the book that the author emphasized on was anorexia. This is a serious disease that claims many lives. I myself can sort of relate to Anise's situation because when I look around, everywhere I look I see ads for beauty products and super-skinny models. When you see that all the time, whether you know better or not you still think that thats the way you're supposed to look. I can kind of relate to the extent that I was almost ready to do that kind of thing as well.....

Hey, I'm a student at Fort Erie Secondary School, and read Gravity Journal with the library club.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion,Gravity Journal is an extremely interesting book, that gives great insight into the life of a person suffering from anorexia. Along with that, Gravity Journal also shows you what it is like to live within an institution, which I found to be very interesting and eye opening.
I also highly recommend this book.

Thank you! If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. Though the book is fiction, it is based on real happenings and real people.
